A pepper tree waves
In the silence
At the breeze that passes by
Water falling like
Quiet crystal
As the gray clouds say goodbye.
One by one, leaves
Release their passengers
That trickle to the ground
Of muted shadows
Across the canyons
And its all done with no sound
Except for something that sounds like sadness,
Like drumming drops of half light.
Except for something this side of madness.
Except for questions in the night,
Like:
What should I do about you?
Should I speak of
Things kept silent?
Could I speak those words aloud?
I know just how that
I would say them-
(Except when youre around)
I have hinted
While we were joking
And you sadly said
I know!
Maybe I shouldnt have
Traveled further
Into this than I should go.
Except for someplace that says I need you,
Like the rain that brings new life.
Except for all of the different feelings.
Except for all the things you do
That make you the you
I wish I knew.
Like the rainstorm that
Touches canyons
As canyons touch the rain
That touches branches that are
Touching breezes
That touch everything the same.
I can see you in
Different Colors
That come out in your name.
I dont know you though
When youre hiding,
And I dont think Im to blame.
Except for something that says I need you
Like the rain that brings new life.
Except for all of the different feelings.
Except for questions in the night
Like what should I do?
I
wish I knew
